Resources to Support Students with Disabilities During the COVID-19 Pandemic

The State of Maryland, along with the rest of the nation, is currently faced with the pandemic threat of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). In order to protect the health and safety of our communities, the State Superintendent announced the closing of Maryland public schools through the end of the academic year 2019-2020. While operations of school buildings has ceased, the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) has been working with local public agencies to ensure continuity of learning for all Maryland students.

During this unprecedented time, the DEI/SES will continue to provide individualized and differentiated technical assistance to LSSs and Public Agencies (PAs). Liaisons are available to support the ongoing implementation of IDEA through a variety of modalities, including phone, web-based meetings, webinars, and the distribution of updated resources. We have gathered the following resources to help support the development of continuity of learning plan.

Serving Children with Disabilities Under IDEA During School Closures Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic

The MSDE Division of Early Intervention and Special Education Services (DEI/SES) has created the following resources in order to address common issues raised by local public agencies, parents, and the advocacy community, and remains committed to supporting local public agencies as we navigate these rapidly evolving and challenging times. Local public agencies should also continue to consult with their legal counsel to ensure local continuity of learning plans and practices comply with applicable state and federal law.
